Controversial Music Video
I chose this as my controversial music video because of the glorification of drugs within the narrative.
The main focus of this video is on the drugs that the people in the video are consuming. This is particularly controversial because of the absence of disguising what they are taking and/or censoring the drugs.
You can see the close ups from 1:18 - 1:20 of them grinding the cannabis and sorting the cocaine into lines preparing to consume these illegal substances. We see later on that what they are drinking is a medicine, a cough syrup type of substance. (1:22 - 1:25)
We know that this video was filmed in the UK where these drugs are not permitted as legal, therefore constituting to the fact that this video is VERY controversial in the way that they are glorifying illegal substances to the society and people who look up to A$AP Rocky.
Applying Goodwin's theory to the video we can see the certain genre characteristics in the music video, with the scantily-clad ladies, promiscuous girls, drugs and cars.
The video also contains many close up of the artist who seems to look clearly intoxicated whilst implying he is sleeping with all these women in the video. The video also contains a lot of shots of women half naked women, therefore containing voyeuristic treatment of the female body.
